Background National Rebuilding Day is the annual signature event of Rebuilding Together, the leading national nonprofit working to preserve affordable homeowenrship by bringing volunteers and comminuties together to rehabilitate the homes of low-income homeowners. These Rebuilding Day(s) are when affiliates from all parts of the country plan projects to celebrate the organization’s mission and to bring national attention to the plight of America’s low-income homeowners and the communities in which they live.
On these Rebuilding Days, volunteers take on active roles to participate in all aspects of the projects. These range from House Captains who project manage the entire scope of work to Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts who chip in by making lunches, outside clean up work or other tasks within their ability to participate. Over the years we see familes who come back year after year, not only setting a positive example for their children but experiencing the satisfaction of helping someone less fortunate.
